About Me

Personal

Since the spring of 2007 I work at Intuit in Mountain View, California. Prior to joining Intuit, I worked for several years at Nokia Research Center. Before that I lived 4 years in the Netherlands where I am a full professor of Software Engineering at the University of Groningen. I lived in Sweden from 1994 until 2000, and worked at the Blekinge Institute of Technology. In 2003, I spent three months in Canada as a visiting professor at the  University of Alberta, Edmonton. My main research interests are in software architecture assessment, design and representation, software product lines, including variability management, organizational approaches and product family architecture design, design erosion, component-oriented software engineering, object-oriented frameworks and design patterns.

I hold a MSc degree is from the University of Twente, the Netherlands (1991) and a PhD degree from Lund University, Sweden (1995).

I'm married to Petra currently is a researcher in Work Psychology  & Leadership at the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. Together we have three wonderful boys: David, born in April 1997 and Nathan, born in August 1999, Adam born in February 2005.

Outside work, I spend time on sports especially running and swimming. In 2006, I ran three marathons, Stockholm Marathon (3:46:28), Helsinki City Marathon (3:47:25) and Vantaa Marathon (3:34:58). Also, I read science fiction with Neal Stephenson being my favorite author. During the holidays, mountain hiking in the Alps or Pyrenees is one of my favorite activities. In the picture below, Nathan and I have just climbed the Ahorn Spitze in Austria (almost 3000 meters).
